As Australia accelerates its clean energy transition, Hepburn Energy offers a case study in community ownership, local benefit-sharing and energy security. It is Australia’s first community-owned windfarm, now seeking to become the first wind, solar and battery co-op.
This co-operative model has gained worldwide recognition and shows how communities can help build social licence and local resilience, raising the question of what models like this could play in Australia’s future energy system.
Daylesford based Melbourne Forum member Peter Duncan is a Hepburn Energy co-op member.
There will be a small fee for visiting the energy farm.
Come just for the afternoon visit to Hepburn Energy at 2.30pm, or consider spending the weekend in the beautiful Daylesford area.
At 11am on Sunday 25 October a private tour of a local heritage house and gardens, Wombat Park Estate have also been arranged.
A group booking may be made at a local eatery for those interested in sharing an evening meal on Saturday (after the Hepburn Energy tour) and/or breakfast on Sunday morning (prior to the Wombat Park Estate tour).
Meals (and accommodation) will be at members’ own expense.
