US foreign policy under the second Trump Administration has so far lacked a discernible logic, stability or consistency, so it is difficult to see how it might ultimately affect Australia. Yet its ultimate shape will have an immense impact on our economy and security.

To provide an in-depth analysis of the situation and to separate the signal from the noise of the daily presidential updates, we have invited Jared Mondschein to join us for an online conversation. Jared is the Director of Research at the United States Studies Centre, based at the University of Sydney. He has great expertise on the current US political environment and its implications for Australia and our region. Jared's insights are underpinned by extensive polling that he leads for the Centre, and he speaks regularly at the Centre's conferences and events.

Previously, Jared was a Research Analyst at Bloomberg BNA in Washington, DC, where he focused on cross-border tax issues. Prior to joining Bloomberg BNA, Jared was a Research Associate in the Asia Studies program of the Council on Foreign Relations, an editorial assistant at Foreign Policy magazine, and an assistant editor at a policy journal in Beijing.

Jared's analysis has appeared in outlets including ABC, BBC, CNN, Foreign Policy, MSNBC, and Sky News, as well as across major Australian mastheads.

Six months on from President Trump's inauguration, it's the ideal time to reflect on the current state of Australia-US relations.
