Open Door Series
Hosted by Weston Lewis
Join fellow Melbourne Forum members and guests for an enchanting evening that bridges the cosmos and camaraderie. Begin with a guided stargazing session at Central Park in Hawthorn (aka Rocket Park), where the city's lights give way to the universe's wonders. Under the expert guidance of Dr Rebecca Allen, Co-Director of Swinburne University's Space Technology and Industry Institute, you'll explore our solar system and cosmos through a Celestron telescope, gaining insights into planets, stars, and the broader universe. Dr Allen may even bring some of her fellow astronomers to discuss the latest astronomy breakthroughs.
Dr Allen is a distinguished astrophysicist whose research focuses on galaxy evolution and microgravity experimentation. As a passionate science communicator, she leads initiatives like the Swinburne Youth Space Innovation Challenge, inspiring the next generation of space enthusiasts.
Following the stargazing experience, we'll walk to the Auburn Hotel, a nearby pub renowned for its warm ambiance and hearty meals. Over dinner (at member’s own expense), continue the cosmic conversation with Dr Allen, delving deeper into the night's observations and the latest in space research.
