The ILO was established in 1919 and became the first specialised agency of the United Nations in 1946, and the only international agency to include representatives of Governments, employers and workers. The ILO determines international standards (treaties) on labour, employment and social justice issues and delivers extensive technical co-operation programs across its 185 Member States, with an annual budget in excess of $1B, over 3000 staff and a global network of regional and country offices.
It is universally regarded as an authoritative source of knowledge on the world of work, established Institutes and centers’ that provide specialized research, training and support for the ILO’s offices and constituents, working in close collaboration with other UN agencies, World Bank, IMF, OECD, G20 and regional multilateral organisations on global and regional issues.
