The Honorable Geoffrey Giudice AO, former President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission in 1997 and Inaugural President of Fair Work Australia, will be our guest at lunch on Wednesday 25 September 2013.
After graduating in law 1970, Geoff worked in industry for nine years before commencing legal practice. A barrister between 1984 and the 1997, he specialized in industrial relations and employment law. He was appointed President of the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and a judge of the Federal Court of Australia in 1997. He was appointed inaugural president of Fair Work Australia when it replaced the Commission in 2009.
Geoff was praised by both sides of the industrial divide for his impartiality and integrity. He was awarded an AOfor distinguished service to the judiciary and to industrial relations.
Following his resignationin February 2012, Geoff was appointed an Honorary Professorial Fellow at both see Department of Management and Marketing in the faculty of Business and Economics and the Law faculty at the University of Melbourne.
Geoff joined Ashurst lawyers (successor to Blake Dawson) as a consultant on in April 2013.
Geoff will lead a discussion on likely trends in industrial relations and employment law post-election.
