Australia’s energy transformation: reflections on the Finkel review

Members Lunch with Chloe Munro
16th November 2017

Australia faces unprecedented challenges to maintain secure, reliable and affordable energy services while reducing carbon emissions. In her characteristic frank and reflective style, Chloe Munro will share her insights from the Chief Scientist’s Independent Review into the Future Security of the National Electricity Market and discuss the blueprint it provides for the transformation of Australia’s electricity system for the benefit of its consumers.

Chloe migrated to Australia in 1996 to lead the Victorian Government’s energy reforms. Two decades later became a member of the expert panel for the Finkel review. She has since been engaged by the Australian Energy Market Operator to chair its Expert Panel assisting with the implementation of the Finkel Review recommendations.

In between, Chloe served as Victoria’s Secretary of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and then of Primary Industries. She was also a senior executive in several business units at Telstra, and a Director or Independent Chair of a range of entities in energy and water. From 2012 to 2017 she was the Inaugural Chair of the Clean Energy Regulator, the independent statutory authority established to administer the market mechanisms at the heart of Australia’s climate change policies.  She is also Chair of Lucy Guerin Inc, an internationally acclaimed contemporary dance company based in Melbourne.
