In November 2016, the Victorian Government announced an independent bi-partisan review of Victoria's electricity and gas retail markets to examine the operation of the Victorian electricity and gas retail markets and to provide options to improve outcomes for consumers.
The Independent Review Panel’s final report (PDF, 2.6 MB) was handed down to the Minister on 13 August 2017 and concludes that despite increased competition and deregulation of the industry Victorian consumers are not gaining the benefits of a competitive retail market. It has therefore recommended a suite of reforms and initiatives, with 11 key recommendations to place the consumers back on a level playing field.
Former Deputy Premier and Minister for Planning, the Honourable John Thwaites, will be leading this conversation over dinner in his position as the Co-Author of the Independent Review Panel.
John Thwaites is a Professorial Fellow, Monash University and Chair of the Monash Sustainable Development Institute and ClimateWorks Australia.
John is also the Chair of Melbourne Water, Chair of the Australian Building Codes Board and Co-Chair of the Leadership Council of the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network (“SDSN”) launched by the Secretary General of the UN to provide expert advice and support to the development and implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Join us for dinner to discuss in depth, the outcomes of this bipartisan review.
