David McAllister joined The Australian Ballet in 1983 and was promoted to principal artist in 1989.
He has appeared with some of the most important companies in the world, including the Bolshoi Ballet, National Ballet of Canada, Birmingham Royal Ballet, Kirov Ballet, and the Georgian State Ballet. In 1992 he danced in the Royal Gala performance of Coppélia in the presence of the Princess of Wales.
David performed for the final time in Giselle on 24 March 2001 at the Sydney Opera House. He then became Artistic Director of The Australian Ballet in July of the same year.
In 2015 The Australian Ballet premiered David's acclaimed new production of The Sleeping Beauty.
He has expertly leveraged his experience as a leading dancer, as well as his managerial acumen as Artistic Director, to grow a financially strong and artistically vibrant Australian Ballet company.
