We are delighted to announce that David Irvine AO, Ambassador, High Commissioner, Author, Adjunct Professor, Chairman and former Director-General of domestic intelligence agency ASIO, former CEO of ASIS and currently the new Chairman of the Foreign Investment Review Board, has just confirmed that he will be joining us for dinner on July 11, under our Chatham House rule format.
David Irvine was a long-serving diplomat - Australian High Commissioner to PNG, Australian Ambassador to the People’s Republic of China, as well as to Mongolia and the People’s Democratic Republic of Korea. He is the only person to have served as the head both of Australia’s foreign intelligence collection agency and its domestic security agency – positions he held for almost twelve years.
David is currently the Chairman of the Foreign Investment Review Board and a member of the Advisory Council of the National Archives of Australia. He is an Adjunct Professor at Charles Sturt University and lectures at the National Security College within the Australian National University. He also chairs the Australian Cyber Security Research Centre, promoting industry investment into Australia’s cyber research capabilities.
David has published two books on Indonesian culture. He has honorary doctorates from the University of Western Australia (Letters) and Edith Cowan University (Science) and was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) in 2005 for services to the promotion of Australia’s international relations.
