2nd August 2016
Indulge in vibrant Neapolitan music on a winter's evening, part of the Southbank Series 2016. Ludovico’s Band continuesthe series with a journey to Naples – a vibrant musical centre and the birthplace of the music conservatory. With its own rich folk music tradition, as well as local composers who included Scarlatti, Pergolesi, Bononcini, Porpora, and Durante, there is scarcely a composer of the first half of the settecento (1700s) who was not influenced by Neapolitan music.
Ludovico’s Band is one of Australia’s most dynamic baroque bands. Taking its name from the influential 16th century Spanish harpist, Ludovico, the band is acclaimed for its performances of music from the 16th to the 18th centuries, including the great works from the Italian and Spanish baroque.
After the performance, join members and violinist Rachael Beesley who leads this group, for wine and conversation.
Presented by Melbourne Recital Centre and Ludovico’s Band.
