- Members' Lunch with Morag Fraser

Valuing the work of mind and hands and why we ignore the humanities at our peril

- Members' Lunch with Morag Fraser
20th August 2015

Morag Fraser is a writer and one of Australia’s most experienced literary and social commentators.
Morag was Adjunct Professor in Humanities and Social Sciences at La Trobe University, 2003-2009, she was Chair of the Melbourne Writers Festival from 2001 to 2004 and from 1991 until 2003 she was the editor of Eureka Street magazine.
Morag's focus is on humanities education and its custodianship of the language of public discourse; the cultural value of music education generally (spiritual, social, medical etc.); the dignity of the work of human hands, and its current devaluing in our culture – specifically of the lamentable closure of so many technical/arts courses in our tertiary system, or their uneasy incorporation into university curricula, with attendant problems about appropriate assessment of performative arts.
This is a unique opportunity for members to have a dialogue with one of Australia’s finest literary and social advocates to better understand 'the work of minds and hands'.
