Delivering the Andrews Government's commitment to rebuilding VET in Victoria; Rebuilding TAFE, VET Funding Review, Quality Review, Skills Commissioner and International Education - Lunch with The Hon Steve Herbert MP, Minister for Training and Skills with the Department of Education and Training.
Steve Herbert qualified as a teacher in 1977 and taught at schools in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. In 1983, Steve joined the Australian Labor Party and embarked upon a political career from 1990, working in senior advisory roles with both state and federal governments.
Steve was elected as a Member of Parliament representing the Eltham electorate from December 2002 to 2014. He was passionate about helping local schools, sports facilities and working to develop greater community involvement among residents.
Shortly after being elected in 2002, Steve was appointed Chair of the Parliamentary Education and Training Committee where he undertook substantial investigations into ways of improving education provision and outcomes for young people.
Following the Bracks Government's re-election in November 2006, Steve was appointed Parliamentary Secretary for the Environment, and in 2007 appointed as Parliamentary Secretary for Education.
In the 2014 election, Steve was elected as a Member of the Legislative Council in the seat of the Northern Victoria Region and was sworn in as Minister for Training and Skills.
