ECONOMICS SERIES

Members Lunch with Paul Coughlin

30th June 2017

What is the importance of AAA? What factors do rating agencies look at in assessing country ratings? Why do structural deficits matter and how can they impact adversely on a country’s prosperity?

Paul returned to Melbourne in 2015 after a 26 year career with Standard & Poors Ratings Services. Paul spent 20 years working overseas, in Hong Kong, Singapore and New York.  In his final posting he became Global Head of S&P's credit rating operations.

Prior to his credit ratings career Paul spent five years as an investment banker, as well as several years working in a number of policy and administrative roles in the Federal Government, including a stint on the parliament house staff of the Hon. John Howard during his term as Treasurer.
